Conservation.

The Scarlet Macaw
(Aro macao).

Central to our mission is the conservation and reintroduction of the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) to its native habitat in Guanacaste. We are restoring critical ecosystems, fostering biodiversity, and creating safe, thriving habitats where these magnificent birds can return and flourish. As part of our long-term vision, we are developing a dedicated breeding and release program to support wild populations and ensure the continued presence of the Scarlet Macaw in the skies of Costa Rica for generations to come.

Biological connection.

Our project will encourage the macaw population connection along Costa Riva’s Pacific Coast biological corridor. The Nosara River biological corridor will be essential for the genetic diversity and health of the Scarlet Macaw populations in this area, we can expand efforts to link the isolated macaw populations from Northwest of the Peninsula to the Oso Peninsula and Samara regions.

The Living Land.

Cycles of Regeneration.

Guacamayo is a living mosaic of regeneration, where the soil is brought back to life through holistic practices. We enrich the land using compost teas, organic matter, and the gentle rhythms of rotational grazing with livestock, building microbial life, restoring fertility, and deepening resilience with every season. Guided by agroforestry and food forest principles, we cultivate a multi-strata system of abundance. Flowing through it all are our rivers and natural springs—vital water sources protected by the layered canopy of trees.

The Farm.

At Guacamayo, we are creating and developing a living farm — a place where regeneration begins with the soil and extends to the community it nourishes. Through our residents’ association, everyone will have access to the food we grow and the abundance the land offers. Guided by the principles of permaculture, agroforestry, and regenerative agriculture, we are working to restore soil fertility, increase biodiversity, and cultivate food that sustains both people and the planet.

To drive the recovery and conservation of the Scarlet Macaws (Aro macao) and their natural habitat in the Nicoya Peninsula, fostering a thriving environment through dedicated preservation and community involvement.

In the initial phase we are creating a nonprofit tree nursery to support habitat restoration and the creation of a biodiverse landscape. We are cultivating specific native tree species essential to the diet and nesting needs of the Scarlet Macaw.
